I See Mommy Cooking

For those of you who missed the debut, I'm posting our family's original music video.  (Click HERE for the movie!)

Here's the story:

I truly am typically just finishing up dinner when Blake gets home and sometimes Claire is just waking up from her nap.  This was the scene one day when Blake got home from work and so he sat down in the living room and starting playing the guitar.

Claire heard the guitar and ran out to the living room.  She loves to dance while he plays.  But this time she kept saying "I see Mommy cooking."  Blake, still playing and singing, just sort of nodded.

From the kitchen I heard Claire saying it over and over, louder each time.  Getting a little tired of hearing it myself I exclaimed, "Blake!  Just acknowledge her and repeat it back".

"I did, I did!" he replied.

Claire then took Blake's head in her hands and yelled into his ear, "I SEE MOMMY COOKING!"

Not skipping a beat from his song, Blake changed the lyrics to "I see mommy cooking" and kept strumming.

"THAT'S IT!" exclaimed Claire with delight and danced & laughed around the room with Blake singing the new song.

We had a good laugh and thought that was the end.

The next day Claire asked for the song again but Blake couldn't remember what he sang or strummed so had to make up something.  It ended up being an eternal loop of the words.

After this session Blake came to me and said we needed to come up with a song so it really had a melody, words, and (most importantly) an END.  We decided to spend the next few Family Home Evening nights working on a song and share it at our upcoming Ward Talent Show (at our church).

As is turned out, we had a scheduling conflict for the night of the talent show so decided we could send a music video - and spent some more FHE nights working on recording & filming.

Claire is a natural actress.  Take after take after take... while we figured out what we really wanted to do she happily did and re-did what we told her (amazing!).  She even wanted to keep filming after we were all done.

And thus, our family music video was born.
